Great game but the new version still has bugs that make it frustrating to play.
In the room with two swords I filled the gel cylinder but the door would not open.
The room with two cylinders often did not fill up however much I chopped the slime.
I was playing this game on an Oculus Quest2 via Virtual Desktop.
How do the gems help the player (is it worth collecting them or should you spend time finding a way out)?
How are the gems affected by the goo covering the gauntlet and can it be reversed?
Is there a way out of the labyrinth? I've played it lots and I cannot find one.
Thanks for checking out the game after we uploaded a new version of it! It's a pleasant surprise to see someone still interested in! It means more than you know to get your feedback! I'm sorry you still ran into bugs - we thought we got all of the game breaking ones fixed, but apparently not!
I would love to say we'll have another update for you in time with more content and more bug fixes, but unfortunately due to some unforeseen legal issues with our employer, we have had to stop working on Harold's Harrowing Heroics *insert rant here*. We hope to one day continue work on it, or at least a game very similar to it, but there are too many unknowns right now to really confirm one way or another. If we could afford to financially, we'd just quit our jobs and work on this game full time, but unfortunately that's not a reality for any of us.
However, I can answer some of your questions!
The gems will do various things for you.
The goal was for the goo on the gauntlet to take over your gem slots, preventing you from placing gems in those slots and disabling any gems in that slot - feeding more into the "running out of space" idea which was the theme of the jam this game was made for. We unfortunately only had time to implement the visual aspect of this, and not the game play side. So, really the goo does nothing. If we ever got to continue working on this game, we planned on adding "wash stations" around the maps, where you could wash your hands - removing the goo from your gauntlet thus freeing up those gem slots once again.
There is a way out of the labyrinth! The game loop goes like so: Arena, random maze, arena, random maze, etc., etc. There are 3 mazes that can be spawned whenever you exit an arena. Each maze has 3 exit options, one of which is chosen at random. So, even if you play the same maze (labyrinth), which is quite possible since we only have 3 made, it would still feel a little different each time because the exit location can change. The exit looks like a door - the same one you'll see in the arena areas. If you searched everywhere in that maze, but still didn't find the door out, it is possible that maze was bugged. At one point our random function that spawned a door in the maze was not guaranteeing that a door would spawn, however that bug should have been fixed.
If you have any other questions about this game I am more than happy to answer them! Again, sorry there won't be any more updates for the time being on it - we're bummed too.
Thanks for the lengthy reply.
Sorry development is stuck. I like the game.
I did find a door in the maze on a few occasions but it took me to a room that looked similar to where I had already been so I thought I had just gone back to where I was rather than progressed.
Is there an actual end then? It sounds like it repeats the room then maze combination forever.
All of the arenas are the same, so it sounds like you were following the proper game loop and not bugged.
We wanted to create a story driven game where after cleaning up the slimes you would slowly work your way up the Wizard's tower, learning some magic casting along the way as well as being exposed to different weapon types. Eventually you would confront the Wizard for kidnapping you, and hopefully beat him - thus beating the game. If development ever continues - that is the direction we hope to go. But for now, the game does not have an actual end, you just keep looping between mazes and arenas until you die - the goal being to see how high of a score you can get.
